When I was little, I used to love this dancehall singer by the name of Patra! Famous for gyrating on the bumper of her car in hot pants and a crop top, under the scorching Jamaican sun!
Besides my love for her dancehall tunes, what I loved most about her was her long thick braids!! Around the same time (1993) we saw Janet Jackson rocking similar braids in the movie Poetic Justice.
Here in South Africa we had a kwaito (South African music genre) group by the name of Boom Shaka with two female artists in the group spotting very similar braids.

Now, back to the future... a few decades later, I've fallen in love with them again! And around September last year I decided to give them a try. After sitting for hours and constantly arguing with the hair stylist about the width of the braids, the verdict was.... I LOVED THEM, so much so that I now can't get enough of them. 7months later I'm still rocking these "Patra Braids".
Solange Knowles has been seen spotting these braids and lookin' mighty fwyn too.

Patra was recently spotted in New York, wearing *clears throat* not the most flattering outfit, but I have to admit her braids are still on point!! Lol!
